SM City Tarlac Participated in the Nationwide Simultaneous Shake Drill

SM City Tarlac conducted a “shake drill” activity on February 15, 2017 at 2PM in line to the Nationwide Simultaneous Fire and Earthquake Drill to heighten the level of preparedness of employees when disaster strikes with the cooperation of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), local Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP).

The shake drill highlighted the capability of SM City Tarlac to execute procedures that will address the safety needs of people should a natural disaster, such as an earthquake, occur within its grounds.

The following are the different mock scenarios during the Fire and Earthquake Drill: demonstrating the proper handling of fire extinguishers and fire hoses during fire, rescuing customer or employees who are unconscious, have head injury, broken bones, and also evacuating elderly, PIWDs and pregnant women.

Forty-five-second alarm indicated earthquake or shaking. While the alarm is ongoing, the customers and all employees performed the “duck, cover and hold” and are instructed to proceed to the designated evacuation area which are east parking (mall façade) and west drive.

The total number of participants are 1,981 including employees, affiliates, tenants, customers, and agencies or contractors. The mall beat its past record of 18 minutes as this quarter’s drill lasted for 13 minutes. The schedule for the national simultaneous shake drill this year is as follows: May 10, August 15 and November 15.
