Widus Foundation launches library program

Widus Foundation, the charity arm of Widus Hotel and Casino, officially launched its “Adopt-a-Library” on Friday.

The foundation opened its first library at Masamat Elementary School in Mexico town.

The library is housed inside a fully-airconditioned 40-foot container van that has two computers, books, and other learning materials.

Widus AVP for Business Development Neki Liwanag said the library project aims to provide a comfortable, safe and conducive learning place which homes quality reading material for students to utilize in furthering their studies.

After donating the library, Liwanag said they plan to do read-along activities in the library in the future.

The project seeks to help promote quality education by fostering existent and non-existent libraries in public schools through building or providing educational materials, equipment, and non-financial assistance–ensuring a safe and conducive learning place for students.

Widus AVP for Finance Mitchell Estacio, Masamat Elementary School head Juanito Rigor, local officials, and other Widus officials and staff were also present during the library launching.

Aside from the library project, Widus Foundation also started a “Balik-Eskwela Program” earlier this year where they provided bags and school supplies to indigent school children. –Photos by JP Manalang
