10,000 Bulakenyos join ‘Takbo para sa Kalikasan 2’

In support to the rehabilitation and battle for Manila Bay the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in coordination with the Provincial Government of Bulacan conducted a fun run activity dubbed as“Takbo para sa Kalikasan 2” held in Bulacan Sports Comlex in the City of Malolos on Sunday morning.

Takbo Para sa Kalikasan II 2019 is in partnership with the DILG with the theme ‘Philippines Run in Support of the Battle for Manila Bay’ wherein some 10,000 participants (runners) joined the event supported by the Provincial Government of Bulacan  headed by Governor Daniel R. Fernando, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) with Usec. Benny Antiporda, Asec. Ramon Cualoping of the Presidential Communication and Operation Office (PCOO) and Department of Education (DepEd).

Senator Cynthia Villar with other government officials led the signing of message of commitment in support to the national government advocacy program for the rehabilitation and battle for Manila Bay.

“On top of the usual coastal clean-up activities in Manila Bay, Takbo Para sa Kalikasan is a nice initiatives of awareness for general public regardless with issues and our advocacy. It is also provides them with a good opportunity to get involved and in their own way, be able to contribute,” Villar said.Clean-up drive activities like this is our priority, we are not doing this for ourselves anymore but for the future generation, for our children and children’s children,” she said.

The event was spearheaded by DILG Asec. Marjorie Jalosjos wherein she was overwhelmed with the huge number of participants who joined in the said fun run as the province of Bulacan broke the record of runners participated in the launching of Takbo Para Sa Kalikasan in the National Capital Region (NCR)Jalosjos said that the said awareness activity was done in Bulacan because it is one of the provinces who contributes waste to the Manila Bay wherein the next fun run will be conducted in the province of Bataan next year.Gov. Fernando on his part said that fun run will not only benefit one’s health but also the environment as well through awareness information dissemination.

“Higit natin dapat pagtuunan ng pansin ang ating kalikasan sa pamamagitan ng paglaan ng malasakit at mataas na pagkalinga pagpapahalaga sa pamamagitan ng pagkakaisa sa ganitong uri ng programa,” Fernando said.

The starting point of the 3K U-turn fun run commenced at 4 am at the Bulacan Sports Complex in Barangay Bagong Bayan (Sta. Isabel) and ended at the Manila North Road in Barangay San Pablo while the 5K U-turn run ended in Barangay Tikay Elementary School and the 10K U-turn run ended  in front of the Bulacan Polytechnic College.Red Cross Philippines-Bulacan Chapter and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) also collaborated in the marathon ensuring the safety of the runners.
