MABALACAT CITY — The City Agriculture Office (CAO) distributed a total of 566 bags of hybrid yellow corn seeds and fertilizers to some 179 corn growers and farmers here.
The distribution of 380 bags of urea, 38 bags of muriate of potash and 190 bags of complete fertilizer was led by CAO Head Lourdes Balatibat and City Agriculture and Fishery Council Chairman Bong Manalo at Xevera Lot Only, Tabun.
“Ito ay mula sa napanalunan natin na 1million pesos from the National Quality Corn Achievers Award 2016,” Balatibat said. It can be recalled that Mabalacat City was hailed by the Department of Agriculture as outstanding city for the implementation of its corn programs.
Balatibat and Corn Coordinator Elizabeth Reyes were also awarded as Outstanding Agriculturist and Corn Coordinator, respectively.
“Yung 38 bags of corn seeds ay naka-schedule na ipamigay sa mga corn growers natin sa darating na September 2017,” Balatibat added.
Meanwhile, a newly-purchased tractor under the Bottom-Up Budgeting (BuB) was turned over by the local officials through Committee on Agriculture and Cooperatives Chairman Councilor Rogelio Yumul to the city farmers during the Farmers’ Day held on February 22.
The City Agriculturist and staff were commended by City Mayor Marino Morales through a resolution signed by the Sangguniang Panlungsod for their dedication and commitment in providing quality programs and services to the Mabalacat farmers. — Larrica Angela Veluz Cunanan
