About 40 former rebels in Bataan signified their intent to return to mainstream society and pledged allegiance to the Philippine government.
Returnees include members of Alyansa ng Magbubukid sa Gitnang Luzon-Bataan and Underground Mass Organization from the towns of Dinalupihan and Hermosa.
During the Convergence and Community Consultation Activity of the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (TF-ELCAC), National Intelligence Coordinating Agency Regional Director Ma. Luisa De Guzman emphasized the importance of the whole-of-nation approach in implementing programs of the government that will help former rebels to start anew.
“Through our whole-of-nation approach, we are able to impart a message to the people that they can rely on the government,” she said.
The official noted that through community consultations, they were able to bring government services in the grassroots and enrich the hearts and minds of residents.
For his part, Hermosa Mayor Antonio Joseph Inton assured the former rebels that the provincial and municipal governments are open to welcome and assist them.
Meanwhile, different national government agencies shared their programs and best practices that will be beneficial to the livelihood and quality of life of the returnees.
Former rebels likewise received food packs from the Capitol through the Bataan Police Provincial Office.
The activity was highlighted with the returnees burning the flag of the Communist Terrorist Group and signing a pledge to support the Anti-Terrorism Law and the National TF-ELCAC.
