5,426 Pampanga students get scholarship grants

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Some 5,426 students from several Pampanga towns on Friday have received scholarship grants from the Provincial Government under its Expanded Educational Financial Assistance Program (EEFAP).

Vice Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda led the distribution of the checks amounting to P16.2 million to the deserving student-beneficiaries at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center.

In a brief speech, the vice governor advised the college scholars to study hard and to avoid vices, especially illegal drugs.

“That is our only plead to you: avoid illegal drugs. Believe us when we tell you that it will lead you to nowhere,” he stressed.

Pineda also told the student-recipients to encourage their classmates and siblings to keep away from illegal drugs, stressing that the use of it has devastating effect, including violating basic human rights.

Porac town Councilor Olga Frances “Fritzie” David-Dizon, meanwhile, said that it is important for the students to finish their studies because they are the future of the province.

Once they graduate and land better jobs, the former chief of staff of Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda, also noted that the scholars can help improve the lives of their parents or families.

For their part, the students expressed gratitude to the provincial officials for the cash assistance they received for SY 2017-2018.

The other officials who were present and assisted in the distribution of the grants were board members Cherry Manalo and Benjamin Jocson (First District); Arthur Salalila, Anthony Joseph Torres, Salvador Dimson Jr. (Second District); Rosve Henson and Ananias Canlas Jr (Third District); and Nelson Calara and Rolando Balingit (Fourth District). ##
