6-year-old boy killed in Hermosa road mishap

A 6-year-old boy died after being hit by a trailer truck in a road accident involving a motorized tricycle and an owner type jeep in Hermosa, Bataan, Friday evening.

According to Hermosa Chief of Police Major Ernesto Esguerra, the incident happened at around 6:30pm along the Roman Highway in Barangay Mambog.

The victim, identified as Mark Nailem Magrata y Tapang, was riding on the back of a Honda 155 motorized tricycle (kolong-kolong) driven by his father, Mark Pe Varian Magrata, when they were allegedly rear-ended by an owner type jeep with plate number WHS 219 driven by Narciso Pamesa y Puno, 67, a widower from Mabiga, Hermosa, Bataan.

The impact caused the tricycle driver to lose control of his vehicle, and the boy fell off and landed on the pavement. He was then struck by a passing trailer truck on the head, resulting in his instant death.

The police report stated the accident was due to reckless driving by the jeep driver, who failed to notice the tricycle turning left at the highway.

Both the jeep driver and the trailer truck driver were taken into custody by the police for proper disposition. A spot report was also prepared by the police.
