Olongapo City – Ang Pamilya Ko Partylist highlighted their advocacy centered on laws that will pursue equal rights and benefit for non traditional and non conventional modern day families.
During a campaign rally held by mayoral candidate Arnold Vegafria at this city Sunday evening, Ang Pamilya Ko partylist representatives Atty Anel Diaz and Miguel Kallos identified these non traditional families through an acronym LOVABLES for easy understanding of who were the beneficiaries and focus of these laws.
Atty Diaz enumerated these non-conventional families as Live-in parents; Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) families; Victims and survivors of domestic abuse; Adoptive families; Blended families; LGBQ partners; Extended and elderly heads of the families; and Solo or single parents.
“Kung ating titingnan yan po ay iba’t ibang anyo ng pamilyang Pilipino na nakikita natin sa ating lipunan labas doon sa traditional na konsepto sa bumubuo ng pamilya. This a real marginalized sector under represented may mga specific needs and rights na kailangang isulong kaya naisip namin na from foundation ay magpa accredit as partylist sa ganon ay maiangat natin ang diskusyon sa larangan ng politika,” Diaz explained.
The partylist focuses on three key points of the legislative agenda such as law on equal rights for legitimate and illegitimate children. “Based on the Supreme Court ruling, there is nothing wrong with a child born out of wedlock. The term illegitimate produces negative connotation or stigma so we are fighting for equal rights across all marital or non marital children,” he said.
We are pushing for domestic and partnership law that will recognize legal protection for long time live-in partners, and LGBQ couples. That they should receive equal rights and basic protection such as the rights of inheritance, and the right for medical decisions in case of emergency.
The Pamilya Ko partylist will also pass a law for surrogacy explaining what conditions or parametAng ers each party has in the surrogate arrangement. The law will set conditions to avoid exploitation of surrogates and provide psychological and emotional supports for surrogates and children.
