CABANATUAN CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) Central Luzon Center for Health Development (CLCHD) has emphasized that many cases of hypertension in the country can be prevented through positive lifestyle modifications, regular health monitoring, and proper medication adherence.

DOH CLCHD Non-Communicable Diseases Cluster Senior Health Program Officer Agnes Alipio said adopting healthier habits is key to reducing the risk of developing high blood pressure.

She highlighted the importance of staying physically active through regular exercise, maintaining a healthy Body Mass Index, and following the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension or DASH diet, which encourages increased intake of vegetables, fruits, lean proteins, and low-fat dairy while reducing salt and saturated fats.

Alipio also stressed that routine blood pressure checks are crucial, especially for individuals with risk factors like obesity or smoking, to enable early detection and management.

She underscored that making these lifestyle changes not only helps prevent hypertension but also reduces the risk of severe complications such as stroke and heart attack.

Furthermore, DOH CLCHD urges Filipinos to take proactive steps now, embracing healthier habits to safeguard their future health and well-being.(CLJD/MCAL,PIA Region 3-Nueva Ecija GIP)
