Imee Marcos declares Senate run in Pampanga

LUBAO, Pampanga — Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos has declared her intention to run for a Senate seat in the 2019 mid-term elections during her visit in this town on Wednesday.

Marcos was guest of Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of Pampanga’s Second Congressional District in a simple lunch with barangay officials here.

Imee, whose real name is Maria Imelda Josefa Romualdez Marcos was born on November 12, 1955. She is the eldest daughter the former President of the Philippines Ferdinand E. Marcos and former First Lady Imelda R. Marcos.

She has been Governor of Ilocos Norte since 2010. She served three terms as Representative of the 2nd District of Ilocos Norte from 1998 until 2007.

Marcos said her brother, Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, is not bent on abandoning his electoral protest in the last vice presidential race, where Leni Robredo was proclaimed winner and, thus, will bow out of the next senatorial derby.

Imee thanked Kapampangan voters for their support to Bongbong’s vice presidential campaign.

It was, Imee said, the first time that a Marcos actually won an election in Pampanga.

“I hope that you will give us that same support in the next elections,” Imee said.
