Indeed, the month of September is truly a delighted time for Fernandina women, as the City of San Fernando recognizes their vital roles in the society through a ‘Women’s Week’ celebration.
Anchored with the theme “Fernandina, Kaantabay sa Buhay na ganap, Kabuhayang Matatag, Pamayanang Maunlad”, the local government, through its Women’s Executive Committee, Gender and Development, and department heads unveiled the calendar of activities for this year’s Women’s week celebration in commemoration of the 144th Birth Anniversary of Nicolasa Dayrit-Panlilio during the Monday’s flag raising ceremony at the City Hall Atrium.
This was followed by a press conference at the Henson-Hizon residence, wherein Nicolasa Dayrit-Panlilio’s monument was wreath-laid by some city officials, members of the Women’s Execom, and ancestors of Dayrit-Panlilio.
During the press conference, Local Council of Women Chairperson Dr. Leticia Yap said that various programs and activities were lined-up, highlighting women empowerment in the society.
‘Siniguro natin na yung mga activities natin this time ay talagang masusulong yung mga kakayahan at kalakasan ng mga kababaihan dito sa ating lipunan sa iba’t-ibang aspeto,” she said.
Activities set-up for the said celebration are Inspection and Monitoring of the ‘Inter-Barangay Gulayan ng mga Kababaihan Contest (Mid October-Awarding) on September 10.
Simultaneous activities in introducing Nicolasa Dayrit-Panlilio will be conducted on September 10-11 such as Story Telling among Daycare students of the “Nicolasa Dayrit-Panlilio: Ing Bayaning Fernandina” and “Isapuso ang Makulay na Buhay ni Nicolasa Dayrit Pautakan Festival” including colored puzzle game among daycare students, color the puzzle game and quiz bee for grade 6 students on September 11, respectively.
Specialized training on candle production for Fernandinas and Youth Forum among students will stage on September 11-12.
Also, on September 12, barangay women of Del Rosario and San Isidro will undergo on ‘food processing followed by ‘fashion accessories making’ on September 13.
On the same day, there will be an Essay Writing Contest and Empowering Women thru Photography contest and ‘Mompreneurship Trade Fair’ at Vista Mall which will run until September 15.
Government employees will undergo on a Mental Health and Wellness Forum and OFW Families will have training on ‘financial literacy’ on September 14.
There will also have a “Dream it, Be it Leadership and Career Path Training” among grade 12 girl students of Pampanga High school on September 14 and September 24.
Lastly, on September 15, Fernandinas of Brgy. San Pedro will undergo a ‘foot massage training’.
In an interview, Mayor Edwin ‘EdSa’ Santiago expressed his support to all the Fernandinas.
He hopes that this week-long celebration will serve as an eye opener to everyone to respect and recognize the contributions of the women in the society.
“Malaki na ang naiambag ng mga kababaihan sa ating bansa, isa sila sa mga dahilan kung bakit patuloy tayong umaangat at nananatiling matatag. Kaya naman dito sa Syudad San Fernando, ay nagsasagawa tayo ng mga proyekto at aktibidad na may layuning makilala ang mga natatanging Fernandina sa iba’t-ibang aspeto,” Santiago said.
