60,000 Trees- The AweSM Tree Count

In celebration of SM Supermalls 60th Anniversary, a nationwide tree planting activity was held across different locations(Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao). A total of 60,000 trees were planted with the help of SM volunteers in partnership with Department of Environment and Natural Resources and in support to the Enhanced National Greening Program of the government.

SM City Olongapo partnered with DENR-CENRO headed by Atty. Marife Castillo to ensure successful mobilization of the project. The simultaneous tree planting was held on September 23, 2018 at Sitio Yutang, Brgy. New Cabalan, Olongapo City. Volunteers from Philippine National Police(PNP), Local government of Olongapo, Public Affairs office (PAO), Barangay New Cabalan, Environmental groups, SM employees, Affiliates, Agencies and media partners worked hand in hand to set the 12,000 narra seedlings on the ground.

“Ang SM Foundation ay kapartner na natin from the very start, meron tayong Memorandum of Agreement noong 2012 signifying the support of SM Foundation sa National Greening Program ng DENR, at last year nag issue uli ng Enhanced National Greening Program o E-NGP at ito ay patuloy na sinusuportahan ng SM kaya meron tayong tree planting ngayon in support na rin sa ENGP at sa ika-60th Anniversary ng SM Supermalls,” remarked Marife Castillo, DENR –CENRO Officer of Olongapo.

The Tree Planting activity is part of the 60 years celebration of SM in the country. It aims to support the Enhanced National Greening Program of DENR and the Grow a Million Trees campaign of SM Foundation and SM Markets. Through this activity, it raises awareness and help employees understand the Work Life Principles of Henry Sy, Sr., among those are, “Long Term Vision and Strategy, and Social Responsibility”.(PR)
