CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — Police gunned down Saturday a suspected motorcycle thief following a brief exchange of gunfire at Sitio Garcia Barangay Sto. Cristo Norte Gapan City, police said.
Supt. Criselda de Guzman, acting Gapan City police chief, said the suspect was pointed by carnap-victim as among two armed men who took at gunpoint a Yamaha Mio 115 cc motorcycle (CA-1174) in nearby Bgy. Sto, Cristo Sur past 9 p.m.
De Guzman said the victim, a certain Keanu Lansangan Nunez of Bgy. San Vicente, Gapan City, sought police assistance after the incident. She said an alarm was flashed to different police units in Nuev Ecija to establish roadblocks and to prevent the suspects from fleeing further.
SPO1 Silvestre Colanza, chief investigator of the Gapan City police, said the suspects were spotted by patrolling cops along Bgy. Sto. Cristo Norte. The suspects, however, fired at the lawmen when flagged down that prompted the policemen to shoot back fatally hitting one of riders.
The other suspect, Colanza said, eluded arrest.
Colanza cited exerted efforts to identify the slain suspect but failed as there are no claimants of the body as of this posting.
Recovered at the site includes a caliber 38 revolver, the stolen Yamaha motorcycle and sachets of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) and a pouch carrying Metrobank automated teller machine (ATM) card with the name Bartolome de Guzman Cano. -Jess Malabanan
