DILG 3 conducts climate change workshop

The Department of Local and Interior Government in Central Luzon conducted a seminar-workshop on the creation of a climate change plan for local government units in the region.

Provinces of Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan and Nueva Ecija are expected to formulate their Local Climate Change Action Plan (LCCAP) during a workshop in Angeles City from September 21 to 23.

The LCCAP contains the policies and measures that a local government must implement and streamline to be able to adapt to climate change and to mitigate its effects.

In her opening remarks, MED Chief Lerrie S. Hernandez emphasized the importance of formulating the LCCAP in facing and handling the effects of climate change.

“With these changing times, we in the government sector, must be the frontliners in facing these changes [brought by natural disasters]. Having our own action plan in handling these is a major step in effectively enabling our LGUs to adapt and be resilient to the effects of climate change,” Monitoring and Evaluation Division chief Lerrie Hernandez said.

The three-day activity includes various discussions and workshops which focus on relevant national laws and policies pertaining to Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, components and steps in the formulation of LCCAP, and its monitoring and evaluation.

Pursuant to the Climate Change Act of 2009 or R.A. 9729, LGUs shall be the frontline agencies in the formulation, planning, and implementation of climate change action plans in their respective areas.
