Barely two months after sitting in office, Mayor Danilo S. Guintu is facing a 90-day suspension for Grave Misconduct and Conduct Prejudicial to the Best Interest of Public Service.
The suspension order from the Office of the Ombudsman came in the heels of a complaint that the Mayor ignored Municipal Ordinance No. 2015-003 Series of 2015 and the Masantol Traffic Code.
The complaint was filed on Ocr. 11, 2017 by incumbent Councilor Bernie Guevarra, former Vice Mayor Ralph Nulud and former Councilor Chris Bondoc.
According to the complaint, Guintu allegedly allowed the operation of the open market day during Saturdays, when the regular operation should only be on Thursdays.
It was learned that under Municipal Ordinance No. 2015-003 Series of 2015, a portion of the Poblacion Road – where the tiangge is held –
is closed to traffic every Thursday morning.
Guintu wrote a letter of appeal, belying that he violated the law because the ordinance does not state that the open market is scheduled every Thursday only.
But his appeal was not granted.
Instead, he received a cease and desist order from the Ombudsman. His suspension is until December 13.
