CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) — A Grade 6 student from the province of Bulacan landed first place in the Regional Search for Exemplary Child organized by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Angel Pollero from Pulilan town was adjudged as having the most exemplary character and took home PhP7,000 cash prize, a plaque, certificate of recognition and other freebies.
Pollero, 11 years old, is the youngest and only daughter among three siblings. She and her siblings were raised by their mother alone, Mrs. Imelda Pollero. She is also a consistent honor student at the Sta. Peregrina Elementary School.
Meanwhile, Euheixen Aliwak of Maria Aurora, Aurora finished second and got PhP5,000 cash prize while Jaslyn Kye Viado of Candelaria, Zambales grabbed the third spot and received PhP3,000 cash prize.
“This year’s is the 8th year that we showcase the talents, wit, and skills of our exemplary Pantawid Pamilya children across the region,” DSWD Social Welfare Officer IV Rowena Balingit said.
She added that this is also a way for the children to prove that they are the hope of the future by showing that they are worthy and productive members of the society.
DSWD leads this year’s search which is anchored on the theme “Bata para sa Bata”.
Contestants were adjudged based on Behavior and Practice (20%), Talent (20%), Intelligence and Wit (20%), Community and School Participation (20%), and Confidence or Stage Presence (20%).
Pollero will be the region’s representative to the national search while Aliwak, Viado and the other contestants will take part in the different activities prepared during the National Children’s Congress slated on November 18-25, 2019.
The competition is open to all Pantawid Pamilya children. It aims to recognize Pantawid Pamilya children who serve as excellent examples in their households, schools and communities.
It also encourages children to be active citizens by complying with the conditions of the program. (CLJD/MJSC-PIA 3)
