Luzon Island will be cut off from the rest of the world within 72 hours.
This as the Department of Transportation (DOTr) will close all airports in Luzon after the 72-hour window.
The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and the Clark International Airport (CRK) in Pampanga province are two of the busiest airports in the Luzon Island.
Several airlines had already cancelled their flights at Clark airport with Qatar Aiways recently reducing its daily flights to 4 times per week.
After the 3-day period which ends Thursday midnight, the DOTr said no one will be allowed to enter or leave Luzon.
Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and foreign visitors were given three days to leave the country from today, after which all international gateways in Luzon will be closed.
“Outbound passengers intending to depart the Philippines from any of the international airports in Luzon shall be allowed to travel for a period of 72 hours from the effectivity of the enhanced community quarantine,” the DOTr said in its guidelines.
“Inbound international passengers in transit upon effectivity of the enhanced community quarantine shall be allowed entry subject to applicable quarantine procedures if coming from countries with existing travel restrictions,” the guidelines stated.
The Luzon Island was placed under enhanced community quarantine at 12 am on Tuesday.
Those who will not be able to secure flights during the 72-hour window will be presumed to have chosen to stay in the Philippines.
The DOTr said only Filipino passengers will be allowed entry in Luzon airports, while some foreigners will be exempted, subject to conditions.
Only Filipino passengers shall be allowed entry but will not be allowed to leave via Luzon airports.
