Vice President Leni Robredo has vowed to address the livelihood concerns of the fishermen in Agutaya, Palawan.
The Agutaya fishermen expressed fear the illegal fishing and low prices for their catch affect their source of livelihood. The fishermen also engage in seaweed farming.
The Agutaya community is considered as a geographically isolated and disadvantaged area (GIDA) due to distance, transportation difficulties, weather conditions and a high poverty incidence.
Illegal fishing, inability to fish during amihan season, and the very low prices for their catch had been affecting the lives of the isolated fishing community in Palawan.
Through “AngatBuhay” Project, the Agutaya fishermen received pledges from organizations to collaborate in addressing education, health & nutrition, and rural development and livelihood.
Robredo is hopeful that the issues raised by the Agutaya fishermen will be addressed through the collaborative initiatives of the government and the private sector.
The Agutaya community took part in #AngatBuhay: Partnerships Against Poverty Summit recently.
