Strict enforcement of traffic regulations for the safety of motorists in the city.
This was the objective of the City Government of San Fernando in conducting “Oplan Sita” earlier today, June 10, 2020, along the Jose Abad Santos Avenue (JASA).
The activity was initiated by the City Public Order and Safety Coordinating Office (CPOSCO) of the local government unit and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region 3.
The offices conducted strict monitoring of motorists—particularly tricycles—violating traffic laws and regulations under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) including wearing of face mask, bringing of valid ID, driver’s license, and quarantine pass.
It can be recalled that the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases released protocols and guidelines under GCQ for public transportation who will resume operations at 50-percent capacity to strictly observe safety measures.
To avoid the spread of virus, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) released vehicle designs as we embrace the “new normal” setup wherein motorists and passengers should wear a face mask and regularly disinfect the vehicles or terminals.
Social distancing must be strictly observed by reducing passengers. Public utility jeepneys should not exceed 50-percent capacity; tricycles should only ferry one passenger at a time while back riding is prohibited for tricycles and motorbikes.
Tricycles are also mandated to use plastic shield between the driver and the passenger.
CPOSCO Officer Louie Clemente reminded Fernandinos to follow the traffic laws to avoid inconvenience and strictly follow health infection control policies.
“We urge the transport sector to strictly follow health protocols so as not to contribute in the possible spread of the virus,” he said.
