CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — The city government of San Fernando cited the role of the business sector in its fight against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
During a meeting with mall and supermarket executives, Mayor Edwin Santiago said they have important role to play in suppressing COVID-19 cases in the city.
“Your participation in this fight is crucial. We have to save the economy, but at the same time, we have to save lives. That is why we are asking your support to be responsible enough in strictly implementing quarantine protocols in your respective establishments,” Santiago said.
For her part, City Health Officer and Emergency Operations Center Incident Commander Dr. Renely Tungol said the meeting was called to improve infection control policies and tighten guidelines implementation.
“Please bear with us if our policy changes from time to time because we are data-driven. Every now and then, we have to change policies based on what the reality and our data here in the City of San Fernando dictates,” she said.
Following the sudden increase in the city’s fatality rate, Tungol added there is a need to revisit and strengthen protocols, and come up with uniform health standards to be implemented in every establishment.
“Establishments are expected to implement the basic minimum health standards such as the use of face mask and face shield, and refusal to allow non- authorized persons outside residence and those without quarantine passes inside their establishments,” she said.
Non-compliance to these protocols will be a ground for closure of the establishments.
Meanwhile, the city’s Peace and Order Group will continue its inspection to ensure the strict implementation of quarantine guidelines inside business establishments.
