FORT DEL PILAR, Baguio City – A soldier was killed and two others were injured in a shooting incident inside the B-1022 EP Barracks of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) here Tuesday afternoon.
Police Capt. Julius Luis, chief of the Baguio City Police Office Station 4, said the shooting occurred at about 4:30 p.m.
Luis said the initial investigation showed that Philippine Air Force (PAF) Staff Sgt. Jeofrey Turqueza died on the spot, while Army Staff Sgt. Vivencio Raton was wounded after they were shot by PAF A2C Christopher Lim using an M16 rifle.
He said Lim destroyed the locker of another soldier and took the rifle he used in the shooting.
According to reports, the two sergeants were on the second floor of the building when Lim approached and shot them.
Turqueza died instantly, while Raton was able to grapple with Lim, shooting and wounding him.
Raton and Lim were taken to the PMA Station Hospital but were later transferred to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center.
No cadet was injured in the incident.
The shooting, initial investigation disclosed, was caused by a misunderstanding and heated argument. The PMA administration has yet to issue a formal statement on the incident pending the follow-up investigation being done by the police.
