DOTr Sec. Tugade: “Tulungan natin ang mga commuters, give the beep cards for free”

As the Department of Transportation (DOTr) takes a step forward in implementing cashless transaction across all transport sectors, Secretary Arthur Tugade recently ordered key officials of the DOTr to ensure that “beep” cards are given to commuters for FREE.

Secretary Tugade emphasized that workers who have just returned to their jobs are the primary passengers of public transport, which is why they should be spared from buying “beep” cards, apart from their daily fares.

Secretary Tugade added that the government must find ways to alleviate the plight of the commuting public, given that they are already among those whose livelihoods were critically impacted by the pandemic.

Prior to the implementation of the General Community Quarantine, Tugade said, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has issued a policy mandating operators to fully implement automatic fare collection system (AFCS) in all PUVs, in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
