Bataan Freeport now COVID-free

MARIVELES, Bataan – After recently having four new recoveries, the Freeport Area of Bataan is again COVID-free!

The Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) received the good news from its Disease Surveillance Officer Michelle Canlas who reported that the Freeport has zero active cases on the 26th of December 2020 after its last 4 patients have recovered.

Since July, the Authority, through its Incident Management Team for Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), heightened its response to help combat the spread of the disease in the FAB.

AFAB IMT Commander Dr. Luz A. Velasco led the team following the initiatives prescribed by the Department of Health and the World Health Organization as well as its constant communication with public health authorities and government health agencies.

The AFAB also facilitated additional undertakings such as the issuance of FAB passes, close monitoring of health and safety protocols and companies’ operations within the Freeport, and launching of contactless transactions for the safety of its stakeholders.

In addition, its 88-bed FAB Quarantine Facility, through the help of the Provincial Government of Bataan (PGB), was also operated to house FAB workers needing to undergo quarantine.

Meanwhile, cooperation of FAB stakeholders is also one major factor that contributed to the success of the Agency’s initiative against COVID-19.
Despite the difficulties brought by the new normal, all FAB locators, workers, and clients continued and responded as how the freeport business would demand. When health and safety protocols are compromised, companies concerned are reprimanded.

The AFAB Administrator Emmanuel Pineda happily welcomed the good news. “Praise God! Thanks for this very welcome update,” Pineda said.
COVID-free FAB ended its COVID-19 toll at 304 cases.
