Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) awarded technology demonstration (TD) packages to three cooperators in the province of Tarlac.
Barangay Maruglu in Capas town received a TD set for tilapia-rearing in net cages including about 29,000 SR tilapia fingerlings.
“The package came with a net set, five bags of fry booster, four bags of hydrated lime, two bags of urea, and a bag each of tea seed and ammonium phosphate,” BFAR Regional Director Wilfredo Cruz shared.
Moreover, two aquafarms in Tarlac City each received 10,000 catfish and 1,500 SR tilapia fingerlings, 12 bags of feeds and 3 bags of fry mash, 4 bags of hydrated lime, 2 bags of urea and 1 bag each of tea seed and ammonium phosphate to be used in the polyculture of catfish and tilapia in their small ponds.
“These inputs were provided to demonstrate the importance of nursery rearing to increase the survival rate and achieve the optimum growth of fish stocks in freshwater aquafarms,” Cruz added.
To further highlight the advancement in aquaculture technology, a basic aquaponics model was placed at the Department of Agriculture Field Office in barangay Paraiso, Tarlac City to showcase and promote the benefits of the system in an actual set-up. (CLJD-PIA 3)
