CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—SAN MIGUEL’s largest brewery in the country clicked the fastest response time in the recent 1st SMC’s Fire Brigade Exhibition last May 12 held inside the sprawling 64-hectares San Fernando Brewery.
The brewery’s emergency response volunteer team (ERT) bested fourteen other teams coming from the conglomerate’s different business units such as packaging, fuel, infrastructure, food, logistics and bulk water with a response time of 1 minute and 1.21 seconds.
The exercise involves the connection of disassembled fire hoses and firing at mock targets with pressurized water and putting out fire with fire extinguishers.
City of San Fernando Bureau of Fire Officer-in-Charge of the City of San Fernando Senior Fire Inspector Jackie Lou Calayag who acted as witness, together with SMC’s Safety Council, praised the event as she also recognized the value of emergency rescue teams as multiplier force when it comes to fire incidents. SFInp Calayag revealed that the San Fernando ERT has responded to at least five (5) fire incidents in March, the largest of which was in Barangay Dolores, this city.
During the closing ceremony, Dolores barangay chairman Allan Patio awarded the brewery’s ERT with a plaque of appreciation.
Barangay Dolores has the most number of commercial establishments including concentration of banks. Patio said the timely intervention of the ERT spared a number of properties from being destroyed or razed to the ground by fire.
