The development of both the Clark International Airport and a new international airport at Sangley Point in Cavite City will resolve traffic woes in the Luzon Island.
All-Asia Resources and Reclamation Corp. (ARRC) Vice President Edmund Lim said the twin-airport policy is the most beneficial strategy.
This, according to Lim, will provide convenience allowing the country to deal with the expected economic growth.
The government and the public stand to benefit the most, Lim said.
“These two are strategically located to serve the northern and southern parts of Luzon. Those in Metro Manila can choose which one is more convenient to them, which will also help ease traffic,” according to Lim.
Lim revealed the Sangley airport will be operational in four to five years if the government decides to pursue it. “It will be built by our company in partnership with foreign partners without the need for a single cent from the government. We have already signed all the contracts to make this happen. We are ready, but we need the government to give its nod.”
Lim said the Clark airport which now hosts Philippine Air Lines (PAL) needs to be upgraded. The Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) will soon embark in the expansion project of the existing Clark terminal to increase capacity to 8 million passengers per year.
He said Clark should “perhaps be the one whose operations and maintenance should be privatized.” Clark also needs modern infrastructure for easy access, Lim said.
