Bataan Capitol, Korea Environmental Institute ink pact vs marine plastic waste

BALANGA CITY (PIA) — The provincial government of Bataan (PGB) has forged an agreement with the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute (KEITI) to combat marine plastic waste.

An Implementation Agreement was signed between the PGB and KEITI for the Master Plan for Marine Plastic Waste Management under the Consulting Official Development Assistance project.

Governor Jose Enrique Garcia III said the partnership’s goal is to develop a comprehensive master plan to enhance environmental management in the province and address challenges posed by marine plastics.

“This project will produce pre-feasibility studies and Project Concept Papers for infrastructure projects, along with the implementation of protocols in Bataan and other identified areas in the country facing similar issues,” he emphasized.

Garcia thanked the Korean government and KEITI for their support, highlighting the partnership’s importance in advancing Bataan’s environmental agenda.

KEITI Division of Environmental Industry Director General Ju Hyun Cho shared that the Korean government has donated a total of US$500,000 to the PGB for the project.

“As we embark on this crucial endeavor, we are committed to working hand in hand with the provincial government of Bataan to combat marine plastic waste and safeguard our oceans for future generations,” he underscored.

With funding secured and a shared commitment to action, the partnership between Bataan and KEITI stands as a beacon of hope in the fight against marine plastic waste, marking a significant stride in environmental stewardship. (CLJD/RPQ-PIA 3)
