Chef Chan Hon Meng, who hails from a farming community in Ipoh, Malaysia, developed his culinary passion early on through daily meal preparations for his family. At 15, he moved to Singapore, where he apprenticed under a Hong Kong chef and perfected his famous soya sauce chicken recipe. In 2009, driven by his belief in creating delicious yet affordable food, he opened Liao Fan Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle in Chinatown Complex Food Centre.
Hawker Chan Philippines already boasts 18 branches across key locations in the country, including SM Mall of Asia, SM City San Lazaro, SM Megamall, SM Grand Central, SM City North EDSA, SM City Baguio, SM City Sorsogon, SM City Legazpi, Ayala Malls-Manila Bay, Glorietta 3 in Ayala Center, and Bonifacio Global City.
Globally, Hawker Chan extends its reach across several countries, including China, Kazakhstan, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Taiwan, Thailand, and the UAE.
It became famous for its simple-yet-delicious P198 soy sauce chicken noodle dish when it was included in Michelin’s first-ever guide to Singapore in 2016, earning one star.
After his Michelin triumph, Meng’s career soared, transforming his brand from a single hawker stall to the Hawker Chan franchise with several locations globally. Despite losing the Michelin star in 2021, a representative stated that Chef Chan Hon Meng has consistently used the same secret recipe and method since 2009. They emphasized their commitment to fresh, daily preparation and expressed a desire to understand the Michelin Guide’s decision, while reaffirming their mission to serve delicious, affordable meals.
