Bataan Death March Commemorative Walk: A tribute to the valor of Tarlaqueño ancestors!

During the Second World War, the province of Tarlac was both a place of fierce fighting, and indomitable courage.

Like their fellow heroes from Bataan and Pampanga, resistance fighters from Tarlac played a crucial role in the guerilla resistance against the WWII oppressors. Farmers, workers, and Death March survivors, engaged in sabotages and raids, harassing the occupying Japanese forces. One of Tarlac’s bravest sons was Major Eliseo Mallari of Capas.

He led the O’Donnel Regiment, and was a member of the 26th Cavalry, Philippine Scouts. The regiment was a key component of the resistance effort. One of their most storied exploits was delaying the advance of four Japanese regiments for six hours. This is heritage that every Filipino from Tarlac can be proud of.

We invite every Tarlaqueño and Tarlaqueña to join this year’s Freedom March, happening on March 1 and 2. It is an annual commemorative and educational trek that honors the bravery of Filipino and American soldiers who fought side by side at the Battle of Bataan.

The route begins at Kilometer Zero, Mariveles Park, Bataan and ends in Capas National Shrine, Tarlac.

This event is produced and organized by Philippine Veterans Bank (PVB) in partnership with Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO), the Department of National Defense (DND), and the local governments of Bataan, Pampanga, and Tarlac.
