CLARK FREEPORT — AboitizPower is eyeing Central Luzon for its sustainable and renewable energy projects, specifically in Tarlac and other parts of the region, a key official said Wednesday on the sideline of Talk Widus, a news forum organized by Pampanga Press Club in cooperation with Widus Hotel and Casino.
“In Central Luzon, we have partnered with a geothermal plant and we will start to build with them this year and next year. I believe we have an upcoming investment in Bataan area,” said David Mikel Aboitiz, manager of Market Strategy, Aboitiz Power.
Part of AboitizPower’s expansion, Aboitiz Group has Pilmico, a food group which has a facility in Tarlac area.
“We are still studying on how we could source out its energy requirements,” he said.
“A total of P81 billion in annual investments are up for renewable energy projects in the country including its international expansion,” said Aboitiz, adding that the company is focusing on solar energy built on a roof top of huge commercial buildings.
The biggest solar energy project built by AboitizPower, he said is the 59MWp San Carlos Sun (SacaSun) project that can deliver 82 GWh a year of clean and renewable energy to the Visayas grid.
“AboitizPower is one of the country’s largest producers of renewable energy and our Cleanergy portfolio generates 1,263 MW, or close to 40% of our total net capacity. This represents our commitment to support the government’s push for a balance of renewable and non-renewable power sources to address the country’s increasing energy demand,” said AboitizPower in a statement.
The project started delivering energy to the Visayas grid on March 9, 2016, before the March 15 deadline imposed by the Department of Energy (DOE) for solar power projects under the Feed-In-Tariff (FIT).
“Our main commitment is to provide sustainable and reliable power for big companies that decided to source out renewable energy,” Aboitiz said.
