MARIVELES, Bataan – In a continued effort to improve the health and well-being of its host communities, AboitizPower subsidiaries GNPower Mariveles (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin (GNPD) recently conducted another successful ‘MediKalinga’ mission in Sitio Dinginin, Barangay Alas-asin, on January 28, 2025.
This initiative aligns with the company’s “P.R.O.G.R.E.S.S.” Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework, which prioritizes “Safeguarding Quality Health Access.”
“Simula po noon hanggang ngayon, tuloy tuloy ang ating ‘MediKalinga’,” said Reputation and Stakeholder Management (RSM) Manager Joseph ‘Jeps’ Paolo Mendoza. “Sa tulong po ng mga doktor na kasama natin, mare-resetahan at mabibigyan kayo ng angkop na gamot.”
The Dinginin Health Center was bustling with activity as residents, both young and old, availed of free medical and dental consultations. Nearly 100 residents lined up to receive essential healthcare services through ‘MediKalinga’.
Dr. Sherwin Durante Pontanilla, Rural Health Physician of Mariveles, highlighted the importance of these missions, particularly for the geographically isolated residents of Sitio Dinginin. “MediKalinga is crucial because these residents live quite far.” Dr. Pontanilla explained. “Even though we have a barangay health station here, it takes around 8 to 10 kilometers to reach the town proper, and transportation options are limited, often requiring residents to walk. These medical missions make a real difference in their lives.”
Beyond medical consultations, the ‘MediKalinga’ initiative also prioritized dental care, offering thorough oral examinations, dental hygiene advice, and basic dental treatments. This aims to address common dental issues and prevent potential complications.
Recognizing the importance of overall well-being, ‘MediKalinga’ also included the distribution of vitamins and essential supplements to all patients to boost their immune systems and improve their general health.
The impact of ‘MediKalinga’ was evident in the gratitude expressed by residents. Edelyn Sumagdon, a mother of three, shared, “Sa tuwing may medical (mission) po dito, nagpupunta po kami… Gumagaling po kasi sila (ang mga anak ko) kapag nabibigyan sila ng tamang gamot.”
‘MediKalinga’ has entered its third year, with three successful implementations in 2024 – January, July, and December. This consistent effort shows AboitizPower’s commitment to transforming energy for a better world and empowering communities by enhancing their quality of life.
The ‘MediKalinga’ project in Sitio Dinginin is the pilot project of AP subsidiaries GMEC & GNPD for a series of health programs with a budget of 2.4 million pesos this 2025.
