AC dad Bonifacio resigns; eyes Provincial Board seat

From “konseho to distrito.” Angeles City councilor Doc Alfie Bonifacio has set his sights on a new political venture, tendering his resignation as he gears up for a provincial board member campaign in Pampanga’s 3rd district.

Bonifacio joins forces with the team of Governor Dennis ‘Delta’ Pineda and Vice Governor Lilia Nanay Pineda, forging ahead with a shared vision for progress and prosperity.

With just one year remaining in his final term as a councilor, Bonifacio’s decision marks a transition from local council to district-level politics, aiming to represent a constituency of around 300,000 voters across the city of San Fernando and adjacent towns – Arayat, Bacolor, Mexico, and Sta. Ana.

Hailing from a lineage deeply rooted in Pampanga, Bonifacio’s familial ties to both San Fernando and Arayat underscore his commitment to serve his home province. His recent voter registration transfer to Barangay Calulut, CSFP signals the next phase of his political journey.

Born and raised in the bustling city of San Fernando, his roots run deep in the heart of Pampanga, where his mother, of the Torres clan, was from San Fernando (Bulaklak Village, Bgy. Sto Niño, and Bgy. Magliman), while his father’s mother’s side was from Barangays Arenas and San Antonio, Arayat of the Bautista clan. They were forced to evacuate to Angeles City amid the major eruption of Pinatubo in 1991.

In a poignant valedictory address delivered before Vice Mayor Vicky Vega Cabigting and fellow council members – Jesus Sangil, Arvin Suller, Joan Crystal Aguas, Danilo Lacson, Marino Bañola, Alexander Indiongco, Edu Pamintuan, Chris Cortez, Dan Nacu and Richard Gaza – at Fortune Restaurant, Korean Town, Angeles City, the teary-eyed Bonifacio bid farewell, marking the end of his tenure which spanned multiple terms from 2010 to 2024.

Acknowledging his dedication and contributions, the city council unanimously passed a resolution honoring Bonifacio’s service, recognizing his unwavering commitment to Angeleños.

Also present in the session is wife Doc Mich and staff. Bonifacio will relinquish his council seat to Doc Mich who will take oath to Mayor Carmelo Pogi Lazatin Jr. on April 30. She is also running for city council under the ticket of mayorable Congressman Carmelo Jon Lazatin II in the 2025 midterm polls.
