ANGELES CITY – Various business establishments, schools, as well as government agencies participated in a local city-wide earthquake drill, through the initiative of Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr., on November 7. Mayor Lazatin personally went to the San Nicolas Public Market to join the said drill.
“It is important for me to help my constituents the proper response to calamities, especially earthquakes,” he said.
Although there will be a national earthquake drill on November 14, the Mayor is urging the public to be ready and prepared in times of disasters.
According to him, this move is not a disturbance, but a way of measuring the readiness and preparedness of people and the city to avoid any casualties or worse-case scenarios.
“Number one po, huwag tayong mag-panic. Isa pong paraan ang mga ganitong drill upang maturuan tayo ng tamang pagtugon sa oras ng sakuna’t kalamidad,” he added.
The Mayor also encouraged his constituents to bring emergency kits with them, which could help them survive when calamities occur.
Moreover, he also asked for a prayer for our brothers and sisters in Mindanao who were severely affected by the strong succeeding earthquakes last October.
The city would send aid amounting to P1.5 million as well as relief goods, and the Mayor pledged to donate his one month salary to the victims.
Donations in kind will be accepted at the City Social Welfare Development Office. Anyone is welcome to drop off any immediate needs of the victims, he said.
