MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga – Scores of Aeta community members from Sitio Monicayo in Barangay Calumpang registered to vote during a satellite registration organized by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday, August 1.
The initiative, led by Comelec Chairman George Garcia and Mabalacat City Mayor Geld Aquino, aimed to prioritize the inclusion of indigenous peoples (IPs) in the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).
Around 300 residents from Calumpang, Marcos Village, and Macapagal Village are expected to participate, with voter registration ongoing until August 10 at the Comelec office in Xevera, Barangay Tabun.
