MARIVELES, Bataan- First barangay (village) councilor Florante ‘Dante’ Malimban formally assumed on Tuesday as the new village chief of Barangay Alas-asin here following the demise of Barangay Captain Roberto Arcenal, Sr.
Arcenal’s son, municipal councilor Ronald Arcenal, told the media that his father succumbed to Covid-19.
The new barangay captain took his oath of office before Mayor Jocelyn Castañeda witnessed by a DILG official via Zoom video conference.
Pursuant to the Local government code of the Philippines 1991, Section 44, the highest number of votes from the members of the barangay council will automatically assume as barangay captain in case of death or permanent incapacity of the latter.
During the oath taking ceremony, Malimban, 54, pledges to faithfully assume the position to the best of his ability and obey the laws and all legal orders and promised to work for the interest of his constituents.
The village is host to GN coal-fired power plant, which contributes millions of pesos to the barangay coffers in terms of taxes and the world-class Maritime Academy of the Asia and the Pacific.
