Angeles City celebrates National Teachers’ Day 2024

The Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Office (SDO) of Angeles City, in collaboration with various education stakeholders, including the Central Luzon Media Association (CLMA) Pampanga Chapter, successfully celebrated National Teachers’ Day on October 4, 2024, at Systems Plus College Foundation. This event gathered public school teachers to honor their dedication, hard work, and invaluable contributions to shaping the future of the community.

After several years of virtual celebrations due to the pandemic, the return to an in-person gathering served as a heartfelt tribute to educators who continue to inspire students despite numerous challenges. The event, spearheaded by Schools Division Superintendent Engr. Edgard Domingo, PhD, CESO V, Enrique Angeles, PhD, CESO VI, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent and SDO Angeles City Senior Education Program Specialist Anna Marie Carmen Romero, highlighted the essential role of teachers in nation-building.

“Happy National Teachers’ Month! Your wisdom, patience, and compassion leave a lasting impact on every student. Thank you for being the guiding light in their journey of learning and growth,” Domingo remarked.

“To all the incredible teachers who shape minds and inspire dreams, your passion and dedication light the way for countless futures. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to every student’s growth. Happy National Teachers’ Month! You are the true architects of tomorrow,” added Angeles.

Additionally, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. expressed his full support by issuing Executive Order No. 100, Series of 2024, which declared a suspension of classes in all public schools in Angeles City on October 5, 2024, allowing teachers to fully participate in the celebration. The decision regarding class suspensions in private schools was left to the discretion of their respective administrations.

The DepEd Angeles City SDO, alongside its education partners, expressed gratitude for the ongoing collaboration in raising the educational standards in the city. This year’s celebration stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment of both teachers and the community to work together for the success of every learner.

In line with the celebration, on September 26, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed with Savers Group Holdings Inc. offering special discounts to DepEd-SDO Angeles City teaching and non-teaching personnel. The agreement includes a 40% discount on hotel room accommodations, a 10% discount on all restaurant outlets, and special concessions for division, school, and personal events. The MOA was signed by Domingo, Angeles, Jansen Ivan Uy President and CEO of Savers Group Holdings Inc., and Justine Shaun Uy Executive Vice President of Savers Group Holdings Inc.

Republic Act No. 10743, enacted on January 29, 2016, designates October 5 as National Teachers’ Day in the Philippines, coinciding with the global celebration of World Teachers’ Day. The law acknowledges the vital role of teachers in nation-building and promotes appreciation for their service. This annual observance fosters a culture of respect for educators, as schools and communities nationwide host events to honor teachers while advocating for improved working conditions and professional growth.

The 2024 National Teachers’ Month Kick-Off Program was held on September 5 at the Candon City Sports Arena, Ilocos Sur. The SDO Angeles City delegates, led by Domingo and Angeles, along ACPUSTA President Jerome Esguerra, ASSERT Secretary Vilma Liao (Principal II), and Anna Marie Carmen Romero (SEPS-SMN), participated in the kick-off program.
