Angeles City expands command center, adds 210 cameras

ANGELES CITY, Philippines – The local government has significantly upgraded its security infrastructure with the installation of 210 additional surveillance cameras, boosting the total to 375 across key locations in the city.

Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. inaugurated the expanded Command Center on February 6, emphasizing the city’s push for advanced technology in crime prevention, law enforcement, and emergency response. The new system aims to eliminate blind spots and enhance real-time monitoring.

Among the newly installed cameras are 16 automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) CCTVs strategically placed at city boundaries with Porac, Mabalacat City, the City of San Fernando, and Magalang. These high-tech cameras are expected to improve traffic monitoring and aid in crime investigations.

To accommodate the expanded network, the city government hired 39 additional CCTV operators, bringing the total to 72 personnel working in three shifts. The Command Center has also been outfitted with high-performance computers and a facial recognition security door lock system.

The surveillance upgrade includes 125 PTZ cameras with 8-megapixel resolution and 36x optical zoom, along with 250 bullet cameras featuring 4-megapixel resolution. All cameras are connected via a fiber-optic network, ensuring high-quality video feeds for law enforcement and security personnel.

Mayor Lazatin encouraged barangay officials and homeowners’ associations to complement the city’s efforts by installing cameras in their respective communities. He underscored the importance of a collective approach to crime prevention, particularly in deterring small-scale burglary and property-related crimes.

The Command Center expansion is a key component of Lazatin’s broader public safety initiative. The mayor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to leveraging modern technology to enhance security and improve overall quality of life for residents.

Key local officials, including Pampanga First District Representative Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II, Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting, city council members, and department heads, attended the inauguration and blessing of the newly enhanced facility.
