Angeles City extols heroism of frontliners

ANGELES CITY — The city government of Angeles extoled on Friday the heroism and selflessness of healthcare workers and other frontliners in the fight against coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

“On this day, I want to salute workers, both in the government and private sector, including healthcare workers, frontliners, and backliners. They are the ones who tirelessly work during this time of pandemic,” Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. said in his message relative to the celebration of the 122nd anniversary of the declaration of Philippine Independence.

He also expressed his thanks to the “modern day heroes” of the city for their unceasing dedication, tirelessness and sacrifices, even if it means that they get to spend less time with their loved ones.

“You didn’t complain when we needed to go from house to house in every barangay just so we can give relief to our constituents. Thank you for not neglecting them and for trying to improve the condition of our fellow Angeleños,” the local chief executive said.

Lazatin also highlighted the important role of frontliners as the government’s constant ally in providing genuine and quality service to the people regardless of any day and time.

“If not for all your sacrifices, I cannot withstand all the challenges we face in fighting COVID-19,” he said.

In closing, he urged the public to not forget that the true meaning of freedom does not come from any book, but from within ourselves.

A toned-down activity due to the current health crisis marked the celebration of the 122ndanniversary of the declaration of Philippine Independence at Museum of Philippine Social History in Angeles City.

This year’s celebration carries the theme “Kalayaan 2020: Tungo sa Bansang Malaya, Nagbabayanihan, at Ligtas.”
