Angeles City receives Best LGU Animal Shelter in Central Luzon

The Angeles City Government on October 15, 2024 received the Best LGU Dog Pound/Animal Shelter conferred by the Department of Agriculture (DA) Field Office III for the first time under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr.

Lazatin’s free spay and neuter program has successfully concluded, exceeding this year’s target of 1,744 pets spayed or neutered without any untoward incidents.

Since Mayor Lazatin launched the free neutering and spaying program in 2020, a total of 5,973 pets—1,854 dogs and 4,119 cats—have received free spaying and neutering.

Additionally, 130,520 pets—93,075 dogs and 37,445 cats—in the 33 barangays have received free anti-rabies vaccinations.

This program, being headed by the City Veterinary Office led by Dr. Christian Arcilla, is part of the ongoing efforts to control the unwanted animal population in the city which has been an effective strategy for animal birth control since it was implemented.

“The city government remains committed to promoting responsible pet ownership among Angeleño households. Through our free programs, including spaying, neutering, and anti-rabies vaccinations, we aim to ensure the health and well-being of our pets and the community,” Lazatin emphasized.

The program is being supervised by two well-known animal lovers in the city, Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, who both advocate to provide shelter for stray pets, on their personal capacities.
