On Monday, October 21, Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 3 Director Richard Daenos presented the prestigious World Culinary Awards trophy to Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco at the DOT Central Office. The award, which named Angeles City in Pampanga as Asia’s Best Emerging Culinary City Destination, was initially conferred earlier this month at a gala in Dubai.
Secretary Frasco commended the collective efforts of the Regional Office team, Angeles City, and Pampanga Province, noting that this accolade reinforces the Philippines’ status as a top-tier food tourism destination.
Known for its culinary staples such as sisig, tokwa’t baboy, street food, and bibingka, Angeles City has gained global recognition for its thriving food scene. The award highlights the city’s commitment to expanding its food tourism, attracting both local and international food enthusiasts.
“This is a testament to the hard work of our local stakeholders,” Frasco said, emphasizing the impact of culinary tourism on regional growth.
Regional Director Daenos expressed gratitude on behalf of Angeles City, noting the ongoing support for programs that uplift the local tourism industry.
The World Culinary Awards, a sister event to the World Travel Awards, annually recognizes excellence in global gastronomy, spotlighting destinations that make significant contributions to the culinary world.
The event was attended by Undersecretary Shahlimar Hofer Tamano, Assistant Secretary Judilyn Quiachon, and members of the DOT Central Luzon team.
