President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has signed the Republic Act 11040 declaring April 27 of every year as special working holiday nationwide and a nonworking holiday in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
Under the signed law, April 27 will be known as Lapu-Lapu Day or Adlaw ni Lapu-Lapu to commemorate the victory of the Cebu hero and his men over the Spanish conquistadores led by Ferdinand Magellan in the historic battle of Mactan in April 27, 1521.
The law, signed by the President last June 29, will take effect 15 days after publication on the Official Gazette or a newspaper.
