ANGELES CITY – Up-and-coming artist Arthur Nery has been progressing into the original Pinoy music (OPM) mainstream, serenading his growing fan base with his original ballads for everyone to fall in love with.
Known for his original hits Pagsamo and Isa Lang, Nery’s songs reflect his emotions and passion as an artist. He said his current influences depend on his vibe and what surrounds him.
“It’s hard to explain my music influences. I listen to different types of genres. Kung ano lang yung masarap sa feeling. Most of my songs are just made from the heart, I guess, you know. Some of the verses are from real life pero hindi naman yung whole song, parts lang, and then I just add some fictional stuff,” he shared.
Nery started his music career as an independent artist and began composing his own songs in 2018 paving his way into the mainstream from his hometown in Cagayan de Oro.
“I had a group but it wasn’t labeled, just a group of friends. I released a single called Life Puzzle independently and then that’s where everything started. I first wrote my first song in 2018 sa CDO,” said Nery.
Nery’s growing fans are called ‘binhi’ as a tribute from his song of the same title which is also included in his first album Letters Never Sent. Nery shared that the term ‘binhi’ comes metaphorically, as he takes his time to prepare and grow just as his fan base.
“Because seed yan, yung tinatanim. So I think because I started with super konti lang kami and then nag grow siya so yung parang metaphorically na daming itatanim na mga ‘binhi’ kaya yung for them to keep on living or growing, kailangan silang “madiligan” through my songs,” he quipped.
Kapampangan binhi Jan Cat said that she has been a fan of Arthur Nery for a year. She calls Nery a musical genius owing to the lyrics of his songs, the melody, and Nery’s talent for “scaling” she said.
“He is singing the song of your life. May puso. Ngayon lang ako naging solid na fan talaga,” she said. “Matatawag ko siyang musical genius kasi scaling is a big thing when it comes to music lalo na tenga lang ang gagamitin mo. As an artist, hindi lahat may ganung tenga. Kasi yung iba pinagaaralan nila.”
Also spotted at the event were Forest BBQ owners Alaine and Joel Tan together with their children who are also fans of Nery as well as Masantol Mayor Tonton Bustos. The young mayor said he supports local artists such as Nery, finding his songs sincere and romantic.
As of this writing, Arthur Nery’s most-streamed song Pagsamo has reached over 113 million while his songs Higa and Isa Lang have more than 87 million and 64 million streams respectively via Spotify.
