CLARK FREEPORT ZONE — Engineering leaders and experts from across Southeast Asia convened in Clark for the 43rd Conference of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (CAFEO43).

The event, hosted by the Philippine Technological Council (PTC) from October 28 to 30 at the SMX Convention Center Clark, highlighted  the collective resolve of ASEAN engineers to build a more inclusive, technologically-resilient, and sustainable region.

Carrying the theme “ASEAN Engineers: Beacons of Prosperity, Inclusivity, Equity, Resilience, and Sustainability,” CAFEO43 event featured plenary sessions, technical symposia, and exhibits showcasing engineering innovations in renewable energy, intelligent cities, and digital transformation.

The three-day event also marked a milestone for the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. (IIEE) as it celebrated its 50th founding anniversary, aligning the organization’s legacy with ASEAN’s shared future.

In his welcome message, ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (AFEO) Chair and CAFEO 43 Organizing Chair  Federico A. Monsada emphasized that engineering must go beyond technical expertise to serve humanity.

“We are called to design not only infrastructures, but also inclusive and equitable communities; to innovate not only for growth, but for resilience and sustainability. We are called to engineer not only with the cold precision of science and technology, but with the heart for real and selfless service to humanity,” he said.

For his part, IIEE National President and CAFEO43 Lead Organizing Chair Alberto R. Herrera Jr. stressed that the gathering serves as a celebration of legacy and a call to action.

“It is truly meaningful that this golden anniversary coincides with the Philippines’ hosting of CAFEO43…It calls on all of us not only to lead, but to lead with vision, with purpose, and with conscience,” he reminded the participants.

Highlighting the role of the host venue, Clark Development Corporation President and CEO Agnes Devanadera welcomed the delegates, noting Clark’s evolution into a global hub for innovation and investment. “Good governance spells good economics, and Clark reflects this in action. Clark is not just building for today. We are building for what’s next,” she said.

Sessions and exhibits tackled four key thematic areas including education and capacity building, water and sanitation, green energy and net zero, and sustainable and intelligent cities.

These discussions centered on building resilient systems that prioritize environmental sustainability, equitable access to resources, and long-term prosperity.

Beyond the lectures and exhibits, CAFEO43 likewise provided opportunities for networking and cultural exchange, strengthening regional ties among engineers.

As CAFEO 43 concluded, Monsada called on ASEAN engineers to continue the spirit of cooperation and service that defines ASEAN engineering.

“May this conference strengthen our bonds, spark new ideas, and inspire us, ASEAN engineers, to continue serving as beacons of progress and hope for our nations,” he said.

The organizers said CAFEO43 closed with renewed unity and shared determination to build a more sustainable ASEAN where engineering remains at the heart of progress and resilience. (CLJD/MJSC, PIA Region 3-Pampanga)
