BALER, Aurora – A newly completed flood mitigation structure by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) now protects the communities of Barangay Suklayin in Baler, Aurora.

Built along the waterways of the Suklayin River, the project features a 750-lineal-meter concrete wall with a steel sheet pile foundation, grouted riprap, and stone masonry, enhancing the area’s resilience to storms and rising water levels.

DPWH Aurora District Engineer Roderick Andal said the river wall now serves as a strong barrier against flooding, safeguarding the lives, livelihoods, and properties of residents.

“This vital infrastructure is expected to reduce the risk of overflow during heavy rains, providing peace of mind to communities living near the river,” Andal noted.

The P94.2-million structure, funded through the 2024 national budget, mitigates the impact of storm surges and shields nearby communities from future water-related disasters. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Aurora)
