BALANGA CITY – The Provincial Health Office (PHO) is urging all parents and guardians in Bataan to bring their children to the nearest health center for free Vitamin A supplementation.
This initiative is part of the nationwide campaign of the Department of Health (DOH) to fight micronutrient deficiency.
Provincial Health Officer and Provincial Nutrition Action Officer Rosanna Buccahan emphasized the dangers of Vitamin A deficiency, which, although not always showing visible symptoms, weakens the immune system and increases the risk of severe infections or even blindness.
“This initiative is crucial in preventing long-term health issues, and we encourage all parents to take advantage of this opportunity for their children’s health,” Buccahan said.
While progress has been made in reducing malnutrition, micronutrient deficiencies remain a threat, particularly in low-income communities.
In Bataan, proactive steps are being taken to ensure children don’t fall victim to these deficiencies, but Buccahan stressed the need for full cooperation from parents.
Mothers who have recently given birth are also encouraged to receive Vitamin A supplementation.
This campaign also aligns with the DOH’s 8-Point Action Agenda, which focuses on health promotion and disease prevention at the community level. (CLJD/RPQ, PIA Region 3-Bataan)
