In relation to the observance of World Food Safety Day, Bataan 1st District Representative Geraldine B. Roman has recently filed the FDA International Standards Act of 2020 or the House Bill 516.
HB 516 is a bill directing the Food and Drug Administration to align the National Food Safety Standards of the Philippines with internationally accepted practices and ensure nationwide monitoring and compliance.
This year’s World Food Safety Day runs on a theme: “Food safety, everyone’s business.”
“Ngayong World Food Safety Day, nananawagan ang World Health Organization sa mga bansa at gobyerno pati na rin sa pribadong sektor upang itaguyod ang kamalayan sa global food safety,” Roman said.
Congresswoman Roman said that her Bill aims to assure the food safety standards especially to the agriculture sector and to business that engage in food services.
Roman’s Bill once enacted into law will direct the FDA to adopt and apply the more stringent standards by the Department of Health.
Recently, Rep. Roman met with the Department of Agriculture officials to help the women sector affected by the prevailing pandemic to have their alternative livelihood to ensure local food production.
