In times past, when you mention B&B, most of us would take it for the usual Bed & Breakfast, or a lodging place that offers overnight accommodation and breakfast. Most of these are family homes converted to cater to such purpose.
But recently, B&B has been totally redefined, reclassified and rebranded in Angeles City. It now stands for Barbecue & Beer, a place that is swiftly becoming known as a necessary pitstop for those in search of great grub and cool beverages.
Located at Richtofen St., Hensonville, Angeles City, B&B opened its doors in November 2015. It didn’t take long for this joint to establish itself as a hip choice for relaxation while fulfilling your cravings for almost anything grilled, everything delicious and all things refreshing.
B&B is owned and ably operated by the Roque siblings Ligel, Jinggoy and Marcie (with spouse Philip Velarde), who are no strangers to the food industry. They are the people behind the successful Juan Sebastien Catering, which has been delighting tummies in Angeles City and beyond since 2006. The Roques also ran Richtofen, a resto bar that once became the favorite place hangout of live music and ballroom dancing enthusiasts here.
Rustic meets modern
Walk into B&B Grill and you’ll feel like you’ve just encountered an album straight out of Pinterest. The rustic, laidback feel of the place goes well with the modern touches of lights dropped from the ceiling by creative pipe frames. The rustic, concrete floor is accented by a random slat of wood so elegantly placed, you would feel it really belonged there.
The no-nonsense bar is so welcoming. Manned by a well-trained bartender, the cozy bar would make you at ease even if you walked into B&B all by your lonesome.
An assortment of beers
B&B offers a variety of beers that would suit your mood. Anywhere from local brands to imported ones, B&B would have your beer of choice.
Still in keeping with the unintended rustic-meets-random theme, B&B Grill offers a wide range of resto-worthy and street-famous gustatory treats that will mix and match well with your choice of beverage. There is the all-time favorite crispy pata, the flavor-packed leg of pork deep fried into perfection. Kare-kareng bagnet, the popular peanut-based entree given a welcome twist via the mouth-watering, sinful bagnet.
If guilt shrouds you and you wish to keep the cholesterol low key, the grilled salmon, or the best-selling bangus ala pobre are there for the picking.
B&B Grill is also home to your ihaw-ihaw delights. Here, you can feast on grilled tenga ng baboy, isaw, pork and more!
For pica-pica enthusiasts, particularly those aiming for an explosion of flavor with every bite and crunch, a surprise treat awaits. The homemade pork crackling pititian, served with a side of atchara and a dip of vinegar, chopped onions, garlic and a splash of pepper, is a fresh bowl of crunchy, no-apologies pleasure.
Meanwhile, for those who just can’t eat without rice, sizzling set meals such as flame-grilled Salisbury steak or seafood salpicao are top picks.
Life is meant to be celebrated. And each celebration must be marked by good food. Celebrate anything from a major accomplishment at work, a new friend you made, or something as simple as a ‘kilig’ text message received or for completing your 5-km brisk walk or run after work at B&B Grill. Be warned though: you have to be there shortly after its doors open at 5pm, as it might take you a while to get a table or a seat after.
Come to B&B Grill, your best bet for any celebration, with or without a reason. After sampling the sumptuous treats, it won’t be a surprise, and you won’t entirely be blamed if you decide to BRB (be right back) • –Photos by Jojo Due
