BI arrests 400 in Parañaque raid

MANILA, Philippines – Nearly 400 foreigners suspected of engaging in illegal online scams were apprehended by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in a large-scale raid in Parañaque City on Wednesday, January 8.

The operation targeted a company in Barangay Tambo, where the individuals were allegedly involved in POGO-like activities preying on victims abroad. BI Intelligence Division Chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. said the group had been under surveillance for months due to violations of immigration laws and the risks their activities posed to the public.

“This is part of our crackdown on illegal activities by foreign nationals,” said Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado. He stressed the government’s commitment to ensuring compliance with Philippine laws.

The suspects are undergoing booking procedures and will remain in BI custody while awaiting deportation proceedings. Authorities vowed swift accountability.
