The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is implementing various measures to ensure that taxpayers in Central Luzon pay their taxes correctly and on time.
During the 20th episode of the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas of the Philippine Information Agency, BIR Revenue Region No. 4 Assistant Regional Director Marlon Mendoza highlighted the agency’s efforts focused on tax compliance.
He emphasized the importance of continuous dialogue with taxpayers to address their concerns and promote timely tax payments, underscoring that compliance is essential for the government to meet its needs.
To facilitate tax compliance, the BIR is undergoing digitalization efforts to streamline the processes of filing and paying taxes.
These initiatives include the Revie Chatbot, the Electronic Filing and Payment System, the Online Registration and Update System, and the Internal Revenue Integrated System.
“We are really accelerating the payment of taxes. Also, we are improving our facilities to make the payment process for correct and timely taxes faster and more efficient,” Mendoza stated.
Meanwhile, the BIR confirmed that tax evaders do exist within the region.
Mendoza explained that to address this concern, the BIR engages taxpayers in dialogue to foster compliance and considers filing cases solely as a last resort.
“But when it becomes unavoidable and cannot be corrected, that’s when we file cases. Our legal division is very active in filing [Run After Tax Evaders] cases, both nationally and locally,” he stressed.
However, Mendoza also mentioned some options for those struggling to pay taxes.
He noted that taxpayers needing to reduce their obligations can seek judicial compromise through the Court of Tax Appeals.
They can also visit their respective Revenue District Office to explore possible installment payments if they are willing to comply.
Furthermore, the BIR assured that all taxpayers are treated equally, regardless of their status or business size.
“According to the principle of tax, which is uniform and equal, we treat everyone the same… Whether they are small or large [businesses], we monitor them,” Mendoza pressed.
Additionally, he reiterated the BIR’s primary mandate to collect taxes.
“The BIR is not here to destroy or shut down your business. Our purpose is to collect from you and ensure that you comply by paying the correct and timely taxes. So, we are your partners,” Mendoza clarified.
The provinces of Central Luzon under BIR Revenue Region No. 4 include Pampanga, Bataan, Zambales, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, and Aurora, while Bulacan falls under BIR Revenue Region No. 5.
As the BIR strengthens its initiatives, it remains committed to facilitating tax compliance across Central Luzon, ensuring that all taxpayers contribute fairly to the nation’s economic development. (CLJD/MAECR, PIA Region 3-Pampanga)
