BIR urges businesses in Central Luzon to update tax registration

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is urging business owners in Central Luzon, particularly those who have transitioned to mixed-income earners, to update their tax registration to ensure compliance with tax regulations.

During the 20th episode of the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas of the Philippine Information Agency, Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue Region No. 4 Revenue Officer Angela Pineda encourages business owners in Central Luzon, particularly those who have transitioned to mixed-income earners, to update their tax registration to ensure compliance with tax regulations. During the 20th episode of the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas of the Philippine Information Agency, BIR Revenue Region No. 4 Revenue Officer Angela Pineda provided details on updating tax registrations for employees who have also ventured into business, thereby becoming mixed-income earners.

“We have the Online Registration and Update System, where they can update their registration from home or anywhere. Alternatively, they may visit the [BIR office] and bring the requirements,” she said.

Moreover, Pineda mentioned that informal income earners, such as microfinance businesses and non-governmental organizations, should also register with the BIR, even if they qualify for tax exemptions based on their Department of Trade and Industry registration.

“We still require them to register, but their registration comes with an exemption,” she noted.

In addition to updating tax registrations, the BIR reminded business owners to submit their closure documentation if they have ceased operations.

Failing to file closure paperwork can lead to the accumulation of penalties, as the business will still be considered active in the BIR’s records.

To officially close a business, Pineda explained that owners must visit the BIR office and provide the necessary closure requests and documents from the city or municipal office.

The BIR reiterated the importance of timely updates to tax registrations and proper business closure to prevent future complications with tax compliance.

In Central Luzon, the provinces of Pampanga, Bataan, Zambales, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, and Aurora are under BIR Revenue Region No. 4.

Bulacan, on the other hand, is included in BIR Revenue Region No. 5.
